“The horse, the horse! The symbol of surging potency and power of movement, of action.”
In 1990 Hidden Hollow Farm was built by Richard Staats and his son-in-law Al Weber. The Farm became a Not For Profit organization in October of 1994. The mission of Hidden Hollow is to provide a safe, fun and educational environment for riders with or without disabilities. Al & Corinne's daughters, Stephanie Fitzpatrick and Shannon LaBrusciano, built up the lesson program. In 1991 Stephanie became a certified therapeutic riding instructor through the Cheff Center in Michigan, as well as becoming a coach and clinician for New York Special Olympics. The farm received there 501(c) 3 status in 1996. Hidden Hollow has hosted the Special Olympics New York State Equestrian Games in 1995, 1996 in Rhinebeck at Rhine Valley Farms, and 2000 in Saugerties at Beaver Kill Farms. The farm hosts the local competition for the Hudson Valley region in the fall. We had a rider go to the World Games in North Carolina that came home with the Gold Medal for United States. Hidden Hollow holds schooling shows and clinics during the summer months at the farm.
We have many different riding programs to choose from. In our lessons each rider must groom and tack up the horse before they ride. When the rider is finished riding, they must groom, put the tack away and properly retire their horse. This is done with an instructor or trained volunteer. We have many wonderful volunteers that help with our therapeutic lessons. These volunteers help to lead and side walk with the riders.
